About Obsidian Baroque

Obsidian Baroque is a new ensemble formed in summer 2024. We were one of five ensembles chosen to participate in the 2025 BBC/National Centre of Early Music's New Generation Baroque Artists development day at the Royal College of Music. We focus on Baroque era music (17th and 18th century) and Baroque dance music. Our musicians are graduates of the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Individually we play with prestigious groups including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Florilegium, The Academy of Ancient Music and Gabrieli. We enjoy performing at local venues to share our enthusiasm for this music

Meet Our Group

These are the artists who make our music come alive.

Hannah Blumsohn

Hannah Blumsohn

Oboes

Hannah has been coordinator of Obsidian Baroque. Trained at Guildhall, she now plays with Baroque orchestras and ensembles around the UK. She also enjoys working musically with children, championing the oboe, and spending time whittling tiny pieces of cane (to make the perfect reed)!

Hannah Parry

Hannah Parry

Violin and Recorder

Hannah is our expert on two instruments which makes her a musical Swiss Army knife and highly valuable member of our team. She is known for her brilliant technique and nuanced playing. She earned her Master's degree with distinction from the Royal College of Music and is currently studying violin performance at Jeune Orchestre de l'Abbaye in France.

Callum Anderson

Callum Anderson

Harpsichord

Callum's precise timing and expert playing provides the backbone to our performances. He holds a Master's Degree in Historically Informed Performance from the Royal Academy of Music with a distinction. He is a veteran of several major orchestras and has given recitals at many prestigious venues.

Erlend Vestby

Erlend Vestby

Cello

This Nordic virtuoso and Royal College of Music graduate has travelled to concert halls across Europe and Asia with his solo, chamber music, and orchestral performances. He can also be found composing, orchestrating and arranging - another string to his bow! Erlend brings a rich, warm tone to our group.

James Bramley

James Bramley

Theorbo

James performs internationally on the lute, theorbo and Baroque guitar working with many esteemed artists. A Guildhall graduate who traded languages and history for gut strings, he now dedicates himself to the ancient art of wrestling with instruments larger than most people. Our audiences enjoy seeing his unique instruments.
